+ Overview

The business was experiencing low conversions on customers updating and adding email addresses via the online account management pages

+ Background

Having initially been briefed to only update the validation on changing email address form criteria, I analysed the page and identified further issues with the layout. The main areas of concern being grouping/segmenting of content, with the additional complexity that npower Business customers can have multiple accounts within one single online login account.

+ Process

With no budget or time scheduled to do any in-depth testing, major development or reuse of existing patterns, I used my extensive knowledge of front-end technology to propose a re-work of existing functionality. It needed to exert minimal impact on the UI and Development teams whilst being vastly more accessible, with a heavy emphasis on understanding the relationships between email addresses and npower business accounts.

By laying out the page in line with modern web trends I was able to group the existing content in a mobile first approach. Desktop users had a more enhanced way of navigating through their business accounts, where smaller screens (and large numbers of accounts) had the option of a dropdown as a replacement.
